Abstract

The development of a country in the modern world is geared towards a knowledge based economy. Quick access and the right use of reliable information are therefore fundamental. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a vital role in this regard. This necessitates an ICT literate workforce and the integration of ICT into school curriculum becomes vital.

The Ministry of Education has already integrated ICT into GCE (O/L) and GCE (A/L) School Curricula and taken several steps to increase the quality of ICT education by focusing on using ICT to teach other subjects and using ICT in school administration. This paper presents the findings of an investigation carried out to understand the present status of ICT education in Sri Lanka. Through the weaknesses and strengths observed, the study proposes a reasonable model to address these issues.
